St Augustine Things to do

Hotel Ponce de Leon
When you travel to Florida, St. Augustine is the Florida vacation spot that you do not want to miss.  Here is our short list of St Augustine things to do:
  1. Explore the Castillo de San Marcos, the Spanish fort that took 23 years to complete and construction was started in 1672.
  2. Take the Flagler Legacy Tour at the Hotel Ponce de Leon now known as Flagler College.  Henry Flagler enlisted the help of designer Louis Comfort Tiffany and Thomas Edison.
  3. Climb the St. Augustine Lighthouse and while you are there visit the Maritime Museum to see the new St. Augustine shrimping and boat building exhibit.
  4. Stroll down St. George Street and enjoy the many shops, eateries, and pubs.  Be sure to explore the other fine establishments on the side streets of the oldest city.
  5. Spend a half a day or so enjoying the Lightner Museum.  Otto Lightner, founder of Hobbies Magazine, chose Flagler's Alcazar Hotel to showcase his collection of collections.
  6. The Memorial Presbyterian Church, built by Henry Flagler in 1889, is a fine example of Venetian Renaissance architecture and memorial to his only daughter.
  7. Visit the Basilica - Cathedral, built in 1793 and partially financed by the Spanish royal treasury.
  8. Step back in time to a life in the 1740's at the Colonial Spanish Quarter, a living history museum.
  9. Spend a day on the beach at Anastasia State Park, one of the finest beach parks in the state of Florida.  You can walk for over an hour and pretend that you are walking on your own private beach.
  10. Take a load off your feet and enjoy the Old Town Trolley Tour of St. Augustine for a narrated tour of the city, sail away on the Schooner Freedom or for a more private excursion try out DEA Charters on their 30' Catamaran,  or depart on the Scenic Cruise for a narrated tour of Matanzas Bay.
One of the most popular and best things to do is just kick back on the porch swing with a good book and a glass of wine or nice cold beer at a St Augustine bed and breakfast, the Carriage Way Bed and Breakfast is a better way to stay for your Florida getaway.
