Fireworks over the Matanzas in the St Augustine Historic District

Fireworks over the Matanzas is still on in the St Augustine historic district in spite of dry conditions.  This is one of the best displays of fireworks on the Southeast coast and since it is held over the Matanzas Bay; just off shore from the Castillo de San Marco, the event is less likely to be cancelled.  Music will be held at the Plaza de la Constitucion from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

If you have the opportunity to travel to this area, we highly recommend finding accommodations in the downtown historic district of St. Augustine.  Carriage Way is just 4 blocks from the bayfront, so we encourage our guests to walk down to the bayfront about 15 minutes prior to the event and to bring a lawn chair.  Parking will be difficult, so look for lodging with parking.  Driving in and out of the downtown historic district is restricted in order to manage the traffic.  Just to put this event into perspective the City of St. Augustine states, " Fireworks Over The Matanzas draws more people--and cars--into the downtown area than any other single event all year long".

St Augustine Restaurants are busy before and after the event, so for the courtesy of our guests we will be holding the annual Carriage Way Bed and Breakfast Independence Day Barbecue from 5 - 6:30 p.m.  If you don't want to fight the traffic, a place to sleep in the area provides the best alternative.  Carriage Way is the better way to stay!
